Making a Small Kitchen look Bigger

If your kitchen feels cramped, there are ways to make your kitchen look and feel larger without major remodeling. Here’s how.

Eliminate Clutter

To brighten up and make the kitchen feel larger, get rid of clutter from counters and windowsills. Keep as much as you can inside cabinets and storage spaces. An overcrowded counter will make a small kitchen look cramped.

Use white or neutral colors

A simple but effective way to make a space look larger and brighter is to paint it white. White or light-colored neutral paint reflects light and enhances the feeling of space. It also gives you the option of endless possibilities of customization. Consider using varying shades of white and textures to give it character and keep the room from looking sterile

Use mirrored or reflective backsplashes

Another way to reflect more light is to use a mirrored backsplash. Choose one continuous design for the best effect.

Choose slimmer cabinets

Smaller and slimmer furnishings are best for tight spaces. Choose slimmer cabinets for your kitchen to give it more visual space. You can also go for slim cabinetry that goes all the way to the ceiling if you need more storage to create visual continuity and symmetry.

Magnetic knife strips

Using the oven, stove, or microwave would generate heat inside the house. Not good. So, if you want to keep a cooler interior, eat out. If you prefer cooking to dining in restaurants or ordering fast foods, try having a barbecue outside instead.

Maximize storage

A way to enlarge your kitchen space is by keeping utensils and other items you don’t immediately need out of sight. You can use the open space above your cabinets to store pots that you don’t use daily. You can also hang small objects like pot holders and towels inside cabinet doors. And… if you don’t use your oven often you can use it to store baking utensils, pots and pans!
